Joining the Party

The First B-ball game was getting ready to start tonight and M. suddenly starts looking around frantically and then points and says "up!" "up!" She goes upstairs and returns with her play Cinderella cell phone. She points to the TV and then "makes a call," smiling.

I guess she's watched Babba watch the Tar Heels while talking on the cell to Grandpa and Uncle J. a few times. HA!

Longest Transfusion Day

Today was not a good transfusion day. They were late even starting with us by an hour. Then the nurses on our floor couldn't get the iv placed. :-( We ended up in hematology (after I asked if we could just go there first!) where they eventually got it in. We heard conflicting thoughts about the port. We went into the day planning to schedule the procedure, but left unsure.

We left our house at 9 and didn't return until 5:30 tonight. J and M are wiped.

The sadder news is that M's hemaglobin levels aren't high enough which means she needs another transfusion in two weeks. Additionally, her iron levels are too high. Her chelation meds were recently increased so please pray that they begin to work soon! This whole first year of consistent transfusions and chelation treatment is really going to be an up and down sort of experience as we all determine how M's body responds to different kinds of care.

So back we go on the 17th. Whew.

Little M was a trooper. She cried like crazy during the hours of placement, but then was smiley to everyone for the rest of the day.

She's A Girl

Another little story on the difference of having a girl in the house:

Our middle son has a "build your own light saber" kit. This means that pieces of the thing can be found in virtually any corner of the P. world. M. found parts of it in her toy basket. It was a handle attached to one of the round parts at a right angle. She picked it up, and immediately it was a hairdryer.

Sure looked like a gun to the rest of us. Go figure.

Tattle-Tale

M's paperwork pre-adoption gave a glimpse of her personality. It has been spot on.

"Quiet" Check.
"Loves music" Check.
"Prefers to observe play first and then join in" Check.
"Loves snacks" Check.

So today was no exception to our experience. After twelve years of having children in our home, we had our first lamp break at the hands of children playing where they should not have. M saw the broken light this morning and the first thing she did was say, "Broke. No M. Boys." I laughed myself silly!

To my mother-in-law....I hear you in my head, "The lamp! The lamp! The lamp!" :-)

Momma's Little Helper

M is quite the little helper. Right now, she's feeding our birds. She loves to fold the laundry, put it away, sweep, mop, etc. This morning, one of our boys had a moustache from his cereal. She quickly pointed it out to him and ran to get him a napkin. A minute later, another brother knocked towels off the counter and M ran over and pointed, making sure he walked back to pick them up. This continued for several minutes and through several instances until one of the boys finally said, "Boy...that girl was made to be a mom. You can't get away with anything with her around!" :-)
