Car Talk

Overheard conversation between the three youngest kids:

"I can't believe Dad's so old. I mean, he looks so young and healthy."

"I know! But he's going to be 40 soon. That's super ancient!"

"Too bad his birthday's coming. I bet that makes him sad to get so old."

"Well, at least mom's not as old as dad."

I guess poor dad will be receiving sympathy cards in February. He isn't turning 40, yet...but he IS getting close.

And I will always be younger. :-)

This Is Getting Ridiculous

While we wait...

Today it is bitterly cold. So cold you don't inhale when you brave the outdoors. M and I have decided we are not courageous and are staying snug and warm waiting for the washing machine repairman to come sometime this afternoon.

It broke on LAUNDRY day. There are MOUNTAINS of clothes here to be sorted, washed, and dried. My mind spins thinking about it. Too bad I can't hold 15 pairs of jeans and rinse, too.

In the meantime, we're busy in the kitchen.

Baking, cooking, baking some more. It's M's favorite kind of day. Time with mom in the kitchen tasting and stirring. And puzzling while she eats the fruit of her labor.

As we worked, I flooded our sunny kitchen with the sweetness of Luciano Pavarotti. I'm trying to teach our children appreciation of the arts.

And what does little M say? She gasps and claps and says, "OH, Mama! Tom and Jerry music!"

Apparently, the OTHER parent got to her cultural education first.
