You all know that I love my husband. He's funny and passionate and has oodles of talents. He loves the fatherless and serves our church with all his heart...but there is one thing he just isn't as polished at, yet...mechanical stuff. That whole machine repair/building gene just didn't get inherited. He's learned some things through the years, but he'll be the first to tell you that he hates doing handyman things because he has no idea what he's doing and thinks he'll make things worse!
So on Saturday night, when we realized the fridge had no power, he wasn't thrilled (especially because it timed with the start of a football game he REALLY wanted to watch!). When we realized it was an electrical problem, he went to the basement to look at the fuses...only to realize the hot water tank was leaking all over the floor!
So he missed tons of the game because he was moving food out of the fridge and transporting it with the help of our boys out to the yard and the church. The next morning, he got up before dawn to pray at church and get ready for worship only to come home to things that needed fixing. While waiting for repair men today, he was deep cleaning the fridge (hey, it's empty...might as well, right?) and I went to do laundry when...you're not going to believe it....
The laundry door was shut. And locked. And wouldn't open. As in, it was a vault. The problem with "new technology" is it's too smart for me! I tried everything. There was some sort of computer malfunction in the front panel and the door had locked and couldn't be opened.
I tried everything I knew. Hold the power button it for awhile...push the start button for awhile...heck, at the end I held them ALL in at the same time and sang the ABC's...nothing.
I just couldn't tell R. So I walked away and waited. We have no operating fridge and a hot water tank dying...I just couldn't tell him that the washer needed help. The last time this happened, there was a bobby pin jammed in one of the hinges. (WHY don't boys empty their pockets???)
A few minutes later I thought, "I'm going to pray over that machine! I don't care how foolish I look. God might not fix it, but maybe He will!"
So I went to my laundry room, laid hands on my dryer (oh yes I did) and said,
"Lord, you know my husband. You know how stressful this is. It would just be such a great blessing if you would just open this door. Please, God. Just open this door. This is such a little thing for you."
And wouldn't you know it? At that SECOND, the door just opened
ALL.BY.ITSELF.
I squealed. And I don't squeal. And then I danced myself into the kitchen, hands above my head, and channeled my best inner baptist choir singer and laughingly sang,
"My God is GREATER! My God is mighty! My God is so good! There's nothing He can't do!"
Guys, if he cares about an itty bitty washing machine, He cares about the BIG STUFF in life. Whatever you need, go to Him trusting that He's listening. He doesn't always answer the way we hope He will, but we can TRUST that He will do what is BEST for us!
