I'm Trying...Really, I Am!

I'm not posting my age or anything, but I didn't grow up with recycling. It's just not natural for me to think, "Wait! This can be repurposed to make all sorts of wonderful things!"

This year, two things happened that made me make a more concentrated effort to recycle. I wanted to be a better steward of the earth and (unfortunately, perhaps more persuasively) a super huge recycling bin was delivered by our garbage company. :-)

So I've been trying. Despite these two nudgings, something even more motivational has occurred.

Our 6 year old has learned about it at school. God save us all. He is FOREVER checking up on us. He's like the secret police for the recycling world.

Today he came home from school and walked right past my pile of things ready to go out to the bin. Instead, he noticed the ONE SOLITARY CAN in the traditional garbage.

"Is that a CAN I see in there?!" I wish you could hear his incredulous tone and glimpse his steely eyes. He was appalled that I could forget something so simple.

Sigh. I'm trying. I really am. Sometimes I just toss and don't think.

But. Don't. Tell. G.

School Report

R's opportunity at N's school went really well yesterday! The teacher gave him free reign to share whatever he wished! So...he talked about his own struggle in middle school with identity and how he found a more personal relationship with God by accepting God's unconditional love for him. R talked about how he loves his job because he gets to share that same love and hope with other people.

He told kids all about Jesus and how he loves them no matter who they are, what they've done, where they live, what they look like, who their friends are, etc.

Kids got to ask him all sorts of questions, too. That give him an opportunity to continue to drive home how life-changing Jesus is.

I wish I could say that kids were falling on their knees right there in the classroom, but who knows what was happening in their hearts...and what seeds were planted.

Lord, put Christ-followers in these kids lives even now to water the seeds and reap a harvest of young people for You!

Great New Book

Reading a great new book that has me asking the question,

Will the world change my children or will my children CHANGE THE WORLD?

Sharing at School

R will be speaking at N's school TOMORROW at lunch time. So....very little time to prepare as he is booked solid through about 8:30 PM tonight. That means he'll have to rely even more on the Spirit to rock the kids' world. Always a good thing!

Please pray that R is able to both honor the position the teacher is in a public school and also give a clear witness to these kids.

Amazing Opportunity

So our oldest son N is currently taking a class on careers. When asked what his father does for a living, N told the teacher that his dad was a pastor. "Interesting," she responded. "I've never had one of those in my class. (Have we mentioned that we live in New England?!) Would he be interested in coming in and telling us about what he does?"

ARE YOU KIDDING?!

Have we mentioned that N goes to a PUBLIC middle school?

Apparently, R will have 20-30 minutes (!) to share all about his profession. What an amazing opportunity to tell 30 kids all about Jesus! He may never be invited back...hmmm....we're praying about how to be honoring of the staff there and yet somehow to share the Gospel.

When I know the date, I'll ask you to join us in praying for discernment and open hearts!

If I didn't have boys....

I would never know the wonder of tucking my freshly showered son into bed wearing a baseball hat. Just too sweetly boyish to ask him to take it off. I love raising sons!
