The First Time We Saw Your Face

It was two years ago this afternoon. Oddly enough, at this very hotel. We got the phone call from our agency that has forever changed our lives. There was a little girl that had been matched to us. Within moments, emails were sent and pictures of little M. were seen. Two years ago today. Right here in St. Louis at this same conference.

We are truly blessed. We love you baby girl. We love you so very, very much.

Away

On Tuesday, J and I flew away for a six day conferance. This will be the longest we have both been apart from M. together; which means the longest from all four at once. My parents are taking care of the kiddos in our home.

This was the most difficult "hand-off" we've ever had. We've gone away for similar lengths of time before, but with less kids--and usually with less going on in their lives. This week was a particularly hectic week in our home.

There are multiple baseball practices and games for two of our sons. A Major Jazz concert. Speech lessons for M. Four seperate school schedules. A church youth event. LOTS of crazy scheduling details. AND...there's the medical stuff. Who can or can't eat what? Who takes what meds when? M.'s infusion directions. NOT a simple process to explain.

We put together four (4!) pages of typed notes for my parents. We're not obsessive. We've NEVER done anything like this before when they've watched our kids. But this is just more complicated than ever before. They are older. More involved. There are MORE of them. There are more medical concerns.

My parents are very able, but it's still not easy to communicate all that is necessary. But we did it. We passed the kids on and went on our learning experience. We've had a few phone calls to add support, answer questions etc. But things seem to be going well.

Please do pray for healthy transitions and bonding all the way around. It's always a little nerve inducing to go away from M. for any amount of time. We are confident in the foundation we are building with her, but still wonder what our relationship will be like when we return.
