It happened. And I'm so very sad and embarrassed to admit it. I thought about it on Sunday morning and when I reached church and took one look at the women in the worship team I knew. I just knew. I LOOKED LIKE A MOM.
sigh.
Not a hip, trendy, black vested mom with the perfect shiny purse over her shoulder with two Gap kids in tow.
The kind of mom with a very simple patterned sweater with a pair of boring pants and dress shoes.
It gets worse.
I wore stockings with them.
I know. I know. Sad but true. There was a reason. There's always a reason. My black sexy boots didn't match. Nothing else did, either. There has simply been no time or inclination in my life lately to update my wardrobe.
So today....I went shopping.
I woke up, remembered my plans and a large frown instantly spread from cheek to cheek. I've shared here before (much to the disdain of my husband), how I feel about clothes shopping. I'd rather pay bills. And I don't even know how.
As I stared at the dizzying options, I felt ill. Seriously? Does anyone else think it's hot in here? How does anyone know what works with what? In one store it was HUGE shirts with tight leggings. (Am I the only one who thinks that seems like a maternity look gone hip? You could hide a lot of months in those tunics!)
The next store had "art inspired t-shirts" covered with tons of sequins and jewelry. Uh-huh. Not exactly sure what's up with the sequin craze. It reminds me of my kids' art drawers.
Then there's the "everything is grungy" look topped off with loads of large plastic jewelry. I already wore geometric glamour wear in 7th grade. With matching socks.
I am feeling old.
I was trying to find a dress to wear to an upcoming dinner. At this point, I'll be going nude. While my husband might appreciate it, I think I might be cold.
I accomplished just one thing in the entire outing...I did NOT make myself feel better with a drive through the Starbucks window....even though THAT is something I can handle picking out!

From our Favorite Preschooler
M was intensely curious about the story of Jonah today. It seemed to be everywhere in her little world. She opened to the story in her Bible at home this morning. In church, a little storybook of Jonah happened to be in her church bag. And after lunch, another book opened to the story.
After sharing the account with her, she had one sweet question about God's choice of discipline...
"Why...uh...uh....uh....wain...uh....Jonah water....uh....uh...uh...fish? Why Jonah no dessert?"
Guess what discipline works best with M? ;-)
