Asian Festival
Today we went to the Hartford Riverfront to the 10th annual Asian Festival. There was music, martial arts demos, Dragon Boat races, food(!) kids' activities and face painting. It was fun. Here's a pic of our Tiger, Snake and (of course) Princess.

On the Way to Acadia
We owe loyal readers some pics of our trip to Acadia. Here are a couple from the drive up. N. and mom having lunch at a rest stop in New Hampshire. Then fun at Friendly's--THANKS Grandpa and Mimi! Then kids glued to the dvd player. Our kids do GREAT in the car, but we did break down a couple years ago for a dvd player---for longer car trips. (4hours plus.)

The Law Won
Last night I was at church rehearsing for an upcoming Robin Mark concert in which our Worship Team gets to be his backup band. Cool stuff.
But as we were beginning I heard, "Um, there are two policemen outside who want to speak with parents."
I headed outside with my good friend wondering what on earth our kids could've gotten into. And knowing full well it could've been ANYthing.
The cop was very serious looking and directed us to the front of the church property where 6 children stood looking intently at the officer. "Ma'am, we received a call about your children. There have been concerns raised about their use of weapons."
WEAPONS?!
I'll say it again. WEAPONS?!
I looked at our sweet, innocent group of boys (read that as "made in God's image and fully loved but capable of anything" sons). In their hands were weapons of all kinds....lightsabres, whiffle ball bats, and pistols.
And all of them very....plastic.
But apparently, one of them was entirely too realistic looking. A $3.99 cap gun of our neighbor's. While playing an innocent game of the wild, wild west, a passenger in a car driving by was unsettled.
"Ma'am. This gun needs to be painted or have orange tape put on it. And I need your name and number for my report."
Report?!
"Don't worry. They're not going to jail."
At that moment I decided to breathe again.
I was tempted to ask if the officer had played cops and robbers as a boy, but decided the stern faced officer might not appreciate my attempt at levity.
It was definitely the talk in the house last night and this morning...and the FIRST thing shared by our middle schooler to his best friend today. My favorite part was this line,
"It's not funny. It was serious. You laugh until it's you a cop is looking at like that. I couldn't feel my knees!"
Let's hope it scared some sense into them!

Awwww...
Today I attempted something I detest (and usually find laundry to wash as an excuse to avoid). G needed help ASSEMBLING something.
Can you hear the disdain from where you are?
Usually, I assign J to the task because the man is a genius with building. Seriously. He needs no directions. Just KNOWS how it's supposed to work.
Today I had grand visions of beautiful interactions, sweet memories being made right along with our wooden birdhouse.
Except I couldn't figure out Step #1.
Or 2, 3, or 4 for that matter.
Finally, G volunteered to finish by himself. Eventually, he put his sweet little hand on my shoulder and said,
"It's ok mom. You're not good at building, but you're GREAT at making cookies!"
I'm thinking that's better in any boy's mind. Right?

Want to Help a Child?
Remember waaay back when I told you all about some super great friends of ours who are in the process of adopting a sweetie in the waiting child program from China? (You can follow their adoption journey at www.bygracewearesix.blogpost.com)
Well, great news! Looks like they're going to matched a WHOLE LOT SOONER than anyone thought (as in at least a year). YEAH for little Grace! She'll be out of an orphanage and into their arms soon!
The only bad part? They've got very little time left to raise the money to complete the adoption.
BUT, GOD IS PROVIDING! The family was picked by an online jeweler to receive a financial gift....the proceeds of the sale of some BEAUTIFUL hand-stamped jewelry.
YOU CAN HELP! Visit the site
http://hipmomjewelry.com/category_8/Adoption.htm
and go shopping for Christmas early! There is something there for all the women in your life. Adoption related. Classic love themes. And so much more!
This is important. At the checkout, make sure to enter this promo code so that that money goes to the right family: MIGNAUG10.
I don't know about you, but I know what I'm asking for in my stocking this year! I just hope dear sweet Santa is reading this blog post! ;-)
