NOTHING
Bliss. We slept in every day. Not even joking. For us that's like 7:30 or 8. :-) Mia and Violet would wake up first and quietly read on their beds or play with legos for a bit until I was ready to make coffee.
We read books. We made fires. We played cards. (Okay, the boys played cards with Randall and I avoided the game, as usual.) We had endless rounds of nerf gun games. We baked bread. The girls got the newly released Little House on the Prairie TV series on DVD and fell in love. It's been so fun watching them realize they knew what would happen because we've already read the books. Delightful.
"I'm just like Mary...always tattling. And nervous we will get in trouble."
"And you're just like Laura...adventurous!"
"And our little sister can be Carrie!"
Gabe fell in love with Wild America.
Shocker.
The biggest boys watched all the Planet of the Ape movies. Because Randall believes this is important education for all young men. Say what?? (I drank wine by the fire in the other room.)
Usually, I'm ready for real life to start again after a vacation. Not this time. Maybe it's because Randall was able to let his mind rest. Maybe it's because we had no expectations for the days. Maybe it's because with each year, I know time goes faster. If there's one good thing last year's car crash made me realize, it's that life is fleeting. Each day is precious.
What will 2015 bring? We hope it means one more little one in our home to love and protect. We hope it means moving into a home where we can put down roots. We hope it means remission for Randall's mom's cancer. We hope it means an end to concussion headaches. We hope it means safer iron levels for Mia.
One thing we know for sure...God goes before us! And He will be with us! And so we can rejoice in whatever He brings!
Wishing you a Joyful and Happy New Year!
