As they swing, I marvel at the becoming.
The becoming of friends.
The becoming of sisters.
Placed together in one family, two girls from two
different mothers. In so many ways, as
different as their beginnings in life.
One free, confident, optimistic.
The other scared, self-conscious, cautious.
They came to us from very different places. Both alone in the world, yet not truly understanding
life could be otherwise.
And here they live.
Laughing.
Fighting.
Playing.
And slowly, very slowly, learning to love.
As they open their hearts, the wounds of the past are
easy to see. Who is stronger? Who is tougher? Who is vulnerable?
It’s safer to lock away the wish to be known. And accepted.
And cherished.
Much, much safer.
And yet, in the giggles there are glimpses of new
life. Budding slowly. Reaching for light and nurturing.
As they learn to be sisters, they are healing.
Side by side.
